Gujarat Police has taken a significant leap toward a paperless and digitized administration with the launch of its ‘Citizen Portal Services’ under the E-GujCOP platform. This innovative system integrates advanced information technology into the home department and police operations, making it simpler than ever for citizens to access essential services without stepping foot in a police station.
A Hassle-Free Solution for Citizens
For many, visiting a police station can be intimidating, a fact even the police administration acknowledges. To address this, the E-GujCOP portal now offers 16 citizen-centric services online, eliminating the need for physical visits to file complaints. Over time, the platform will expand to include a total of 120 services, further streamlining the process and saving time for users.
What Services Are Available?
The E-GujCOP portal provides a wide range of online services, including:
- Filing complaints for crimes, theft, or missing persons.
- Registering senior citizens, vehicle drivers, house-help, and tenants.
- Applying for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and police verification certificates.
- Accessing copies of First Information Reports (FIRs).
- Searching for missing relatives, stolen goods, wanted criminals, and unclaimed bodies.
- Checking the status of applications in real-time.
Previously, citizens had to visit police stations in person to address these matters. Now, everything can be done from the comfort of their homes.
Benefits of the E-GujCOP Portal
According to Pramod Kumar, Director General of Police (Armed Unit), the portal offers numerous advantages:
- Citizens can request police services online, view case progress, and download essential forms and certificates.
- It provides access to critical information, such as details of missing persons and stolen vehicles.
- Users can apply for licenses, verifications, and permissions while tracking their application status online.
Enhanced Security and Future Plans
Sanjay Shreevastav, Additional Director General of Police (Technical Devices), highlighted the portal’s security features, stating, “E-GujCOP is a highly secure system with advanced encryption technology, ensuring user data remains protected.” He also revealed plans to expand the platform’s offerings, including services like health licensing for liquor and weapons licenses.
A Legacy of Digital Transformation
The E-GujCOP initiative traces its roots back to 2013 when it was introduced by then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Since its inception, the project has significantly improved transparency, efficiency, and record-keeping across thousands of locations, including hundreds of police stations. By eliminating duplicate records and enabling fingerprint identification, the system has saved considerable time and resources.
Why This Matters
This digital transformation marks a major step forward in making police services more accessible and user-friendly. By minimizing human interaction and leveraging technology, the Gujarat Police are setting a new standard for citizen-centric governance.
With E-GujCOP, filing a police complaint or accessing essential services is now just a click away, empowering citizens and fostering trust in the system.
