Hitesh Chavda, Gandhinagar: Dalit-rights activist and Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani addressed his public gathering in Ahmedabad on Friday, where he urged the Dalit community member to take an oath that they will never let their children join the RSS and would restrain from voting for BJP in future elections. Mevani had returned from a tiring election campaign in Karnataka with popular Kannada actor and social activist Prakash Raj.

Addressing a public rally in Bhudarpura, Mevani said that he has already begun his preparations for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections and the 2019 general elections. He will begin his campaign from May 13 for the Rajasthan elections, for which the election commission has released a five-month schedule. He said, “I want you all to take an oath, that you will never send your children to join the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and never vote for the BJP in the future elections. I will start by having one lakh Dalit community members to take this oath for the upcoming Rajasthan elections.

Training his guns at the failure of Ahmedabad Crime Branch in acting against the police assault on Bhudarpura residents last month, he said; Ahmedabad Crime Branch is actually Ahmedabad Kayar (Coward) Branch. The police only shoe their brawn against the powerless, and especially against women. These weren’t regular constables, but the starred and high ranked police officers who rained blows and assaulted the people of Bhudarpura. The government and the police have failed to act against those who were behind these atrocities and let the law and order go to the dogs.

He further said, “There is not a single day when I don’t receive calls about Dalits being assaulted and beaten up and the police fail to act against these perpetrators. Thus I will be taking my campaign against the ruling party from here to the national stage too.
