Prashant Dayal, Ahmedabad: Recently, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) national president Amit Shah visited Matoshree in Mumbai to meet Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray. The relationship between BJP and Shiv Sena is known to everyone, which was visible during the build-up to this meeting, where Shah had announced that his party will contest the 2019 general elections with Shiv Sena. The body language of Shah and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavais was quite different from their usual selves. It seemed as if both of them were going to meet Uddhav under some sort of compulsion, probably a political one.

There’s nothing wrong in Shah’s meeting with Uddhav for the upcoming general elections. But those who know Amit Shah from close quarters are aware that if Amit Shah has any enemies, then it is himself. Shah would go out of his way to meet the person if he/she is important. Shah could be cordial to the person till his needs are fulfilled, but once that is achieved, Shah would cut off the person and would not even acknowledge him any further.

Senior political leaders, who have seen the growth of Amit Shah the politician, would swear by the fact that Shah is nobody’s friend. There’s no one in Indian politics who could claim that he/she is Amit Shah’s friend. Shah is someone who won’t flinch an eye before finishing off someone who comes in his way in politics. Those who support him must remain with him. It has always been visible on who is by Shah’s side and who’s not. And those who do not, have probably risked losing their political existence in politics.

Bureaucrats and government officials who have been of Amit Shah’s help, have never received experienced any act of gratitude from him, instead, Shah believes it was the duty of the official or the bureaucrat to be helpful to him. As a matter of fact, he has always had a new official or bureaucrat at every next step or action, and the old ones are left where they were. Because he has been on the higher echelons of power for the last 20 years, there has been an authoritative attitude developed in him too. So it is obvious that relations don’t matter to him anymore and every person is judged, valued and dealt with according to his/her usefulness.

The strategies by Shah are always discussed widely and people talk about his tactfulness. But, Amit Shah sees politics as a profession and has utilized it well enough for a successful political career. But given his behavior, he doesn’t need any specific enemy.
