Ahmedabad: Saying that Dabhoi is called “Dubai” in mockery, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate said he wants to bring back the lost pride of the assembly constituency “when this historical town was known as Darbhavati Nagri.”

Shailesh Sotta was responding to a question on how he will take on the Congress candidate, senior leader Siddharth Patel, in the forthcoming elections that will be held in the second week of December.

Sotta filed his nomination papers in the presence of a large gathering, which included former MLA D.M. Patel, in Vadodara district on Friday.

Politics is more or less the same in all places, Sotta said, adding that just like cities face problems with regard to water, villages have to deal with bad roads.

“Dabhoi does not have any big industries. But I want to make it an educational hub. Similarly, Kevadia (in Vadodara) can be developed as a good tourism spot. If a technical education hub, with engineering colleges, is developed there, then we can develop Dabhoi and many people will visit it for business. A gateway project can also be built for Kevadia and Vadhvan villages, where migratory birds can flock to,” he said.

“Chanod-Karnali has religious importance and the finance minister is likely to adopt it,” Sotta said, referring to Nitin Patel, who is also Gujarat’s deputy chief minister.

In response to a question about choosing not to field Balkrishna Patel, who is the sitting member of the assembly constituency (MLA), for re-election in Dabhoi, he said, “The reason Narendrabhai (Modi, the Prime Minsiter) and Amitbhai (Shah, the BJP’s national president) selected me is because I will make history.”
