Ahmedabad: Co-operative sector leader, farmers’ rights activist and Porbandar MLA Vitthal Radadiya on Friday resigned as chairman of the Rajkot District Co-operative Bank during a meeting of the bank’s board of directors, citing his failing health. His son Jayesh, who is currently a director at the bank, is expected to succeed his father in the elections that will be held in 8–10 days.

People from the bank who are familiar with the matter say that Radadiya has been receiving treatment in a private hospital in Ahmedabad after his health had worsened and had to be put in a ventilator and then in an ICU to recover.
