MeraNews Network, Mumbai: Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma’s Dr. Hansraj Hathi-famed actor Kavi Kumar Azad passed away due to cardiac arrest in the Wockhardt hospital in Mumbai on Monday (July 9) around noon.

Azad was popular for his portrayal of the character of Dr. Hansraj Hathi on SAB TV’s successful prime-time sitcom Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma. He was living in Mumbai with his parents and was unmarried. Azad was supposed to attend a meeting regarding the show with the producers and the case on Monday morning but had called up the producers to inform them about his leave as he was feeling unwell.

The show’s producer Asit Kumarr Modi in a statement, said “We are very sad to inform loss of our senior actor Kavi Kumar Azaad. He was playing the character of Dr. Hathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma. We lost him to a massive cardiac arrest today morning. He was an amazing actor and a very positive person. He truly loved the show and always came for the shoot even if he was not feeling well. He called today morning that he is not well and will not be able to come for the shoot. And later we got the news that he passed away. We are all too numb to say anything,”

If sources are to be believed, Azad had consumed alcohol with his friends the previous night and the next morning his health had begun to deteriorate and had to be rushed to Wockhardt Hospital in Mira Road, Mumbai. Apart from this show, Azad has also worked in Bollywood films like Mela alongside Aamir Khan and Fun2sh alongside Paresh Rawal.
