MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: The state government on Wednesday put a ban on buses carrying students on picnic from plying at night. Picnic buses cannot ply on the roads from 11 PM to 6 AM. This decision by the government taken in the state cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar today after eight students were killed and many others injured in two separate bus accidents.
Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel told reporters that the government has decided to ban buses with children aboard from plying during the night hours, i.e. 11 PM to 6 PM in the morning as the recent bus accidents that occurred a few days back were buses being driven during the night.
On December 22, 8 students died and 17 others were injured as their bus returning from a picnic fell into a gorge in Dang. In another incident on Tuesday, a bus returning from a picnic met with an accident and left 24 students injured and one person dead.
Dy CM Patel added that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the school students and that the bus operators will now have to stop the journey during this period and make lodging arrangements for the travelling children.
