Ahmedabad: The 79th Senior Inter-State and National Table Tennis Championships being held at Ranchi saw Gujarat paddlers Manush Shah and Devesh Karia continue their phenomenal run at the event with two major upsets on Monday. Manush defeated second seed Arjun Ghosh leading his early exit from the competition.

Playing an attacking game, Manush gave very little room to Arjun and set up a 11-7 11-7 11-3 10-12 6-11 11-5 win. Arjun plays for the Ultimate TT league champions Falcons. Vadodara-based Manush had five medals to his credit at the Junior and Youth Championships at Durgapur earlier this month. He was also a part of the bronze medal winning Gujarat team in the team event here two days ago.

Meanwhile, Manush’s teammate and Bhavnagar-based Devesh, also a left handed paddler, rallied from 1-3 down to a 11-13 8-11 11-6 4-11 11-7 11-3 11-7 win and sent seventh seed Subhajit Saha packing. Devesh, too was part of bronze medal winning team earlier in the tournament. He now advances to the pre-quarterfinals with this win
