MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: Olympic medallists P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will face off in the women’s final at the 82nd Senior National Badminton Championships in Nagpur on Wednesday, while Kidambi Srikanth will take on H.S. Prannoy in the final of the men’s event.

Sindhu and Nehwal reached the final in contrasting styles, with the former, a silver medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, coming back from a game down against Ruthvika Shivani to win 17-21, 21-15, 21-11. Nehwal won her semifinal encounter against Anura Prabhudesai in straight games 21-11, 21-10.

Nehwal, a former World No.1 and bronze medallist at the 2012 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, won the badminton nationals in 2006 and 2007, while current World No.2 Sindhu was champion in 2011 and 2013.

Srikanth, currently ranked No.2 in the world, overcame Lakshya Sen 21-16, 21-18 to set up a summit clash with Prannoy, who he defeated in the semifinals of the French Open Super Series last October. Prannoy defeated Subhankar Dey 21-14, 21-17 in his last-four match.

In the men’s doubles event, Satwik Sai Raj R. and Chirag Shetty will face Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B, while Sikki Reddy N. and Ashwini Ponnappa will take on Sanyogita Ghorpade and Prajakta Sawant in the women’s doubles final.

In mixed doubles final, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy will take on the team of Satwik Sai Raj and Ponnappa.
