MeraNews Network, Surat: It is a common tradition in Gujarat where the boss gives a cash bonus to his/her employees during the Diwali. But a Surat-based diamond trader has been making news for the past five years for his extravagant gifting to employees in form of cars, flats, and jewellery.

Savji Dholakia, a diamond trader from Gujarat’s Surat city and the proprietor of Hare Krishna Exports has declared that he will be gifting cars to 600 employees of his firm under the ‘Skill India Incentive’ initiative. A few other employees will also receive keys to new flats and some others will receive fixed deposits in their names.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over keys of new cars to two such female employees on Thursday and even addressed the gift distribution event held in Surat via video conferencing. Modi lauded the initiative by Dholakia and said that it adds an impetus to the skill development in New India. Religious leaders Morari Bapu, Ramesh Oza, and Sri Sri Ravishankar too sent their best wishes and praise for the firm and its employees through video messages. 600 of the 1600 employees shortlisted this year, mostly diamond polishers, received brand new Maruti Suzuki Celerios and Renault Kwids, while 900 others received their incentives in the form of fixed deposits.

Over the last five years, 4000 of his employees have received such gifts for Diwali. Dholakia said that this initiative was started to motivate the employees to work towards improving their skills and be a part of the growth of the firm. The employees are given an option to choose from a car, a fixed deposit or a flat in their names. So far, 300 employees have been given flats, and 300 other such flats are being constructed to be given away as gifts. Just about a month ago, the firm had also gifted three of its senior employees a Mercedez-Benz each, as they had completed 25 years with the firm.
