Siddharth Doshi, Ahmedabad: SAL Institute of Technology & Engineering Research (Saliter) thwarted Gujarat College (GC) 5–3 in a penalty shoot-out at the final of the JG Cup, the annual state-level football tournament for schools, organized by JG International School.

Vishal Chaitanya opened the scoring in the 14th minute for the Saliters. Mahipal Chauhan equalized for the Gujarat College with a spellbinding strike in the 57th minute, taking the game to a penalty shoot-out.

While Pranjal Modi, Krishnapal Zala, Malav Sagar, Swapnil Patel and Vishal Chaitanya scored for the Saliters, GC received a blow at the start as Ashish Rathava missed the net. Ayan Shaikh, Sanjay Rathava and Mal Bachhan went on to score three consecutive goals, but these did not make a dent in the final outcome.

Of the 440 players in the tournament, Krishanapal Zala of the Saliters received the best player award while Rohit Pande of GC was awarded best goalkeeper of the tournament.
