Rajkot: The Kadva Patidar community in Rajkot recently hosted a unique event where more than 25,000 mothers- and daughters-in-law gathered under the banner “ek bijane gamta rahiye”—let’s keep on loving each other.
Organized under the aegis of the Patel Seva Samaj Rajkot, women from Rajkot, Shapar-Veraval and Mateda—ranging in age from 12 years to 105—vowed to keep their differences aside and not let these affect their relationship. Around 50 nonagenarians were also felicitated at the event, which was held in the last week of January.
“This event is a revolutionary step for the community and public life. Women will be more empowered by this,” said Patel Seva Samaj president Arvind Patel.
Vijayaben Vacchani, who heads the Mahila Mandal Rajkot, said the meet was organized with the aim of keeping the tradition of joint families alive in the Patidar community.
