MeraNews Network, Rajkot: Young and rising star and former India U-19 captain Prithvi Shaw made his test debut on Thursday in the Rajkot test of two-match series against West Indies. India will look to maintain their numero-uno position in the test cricket.

Shaw started off on a song this morning as he opened with KL Rahul after India set out to bat after winning the toss. The young Mumbai lad has already hit eleven boundaries in the first session of the match, a dream start for Shaw who recieved his test cap number 293 from Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Three specialist spinners -- Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav -- have been picked and the pace pairing will be of Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav.

India will be testing a number of new combinations in both bowling and batting department as they went into the series without pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, and Hardik Pandya while opener Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan have also been dropped.

India would be looking at this series as an opportunity to weigh their options before they undertake a tour of Australia next month.
