Anil Pushpangadan, Gandhinagar: The Union government on Friday empanelled 26 IPS officers from the total 100 IPS officers from the 1996 batch. Of the 4 IPS officers from the Gujarat cadre in 1996 batch, only IGP Narsimha Komar has been selected for empanelment. Dr Prafulla Roushan, who too belongs to the same batch didn't get empanelled despite being on duty at the centre

The Union Home Ministry empanels IPS officers regularly. Recently, it was the 1996 batch IPS officers which got empanelled, which had 100 IPS officers from different cadres of the 1996 batch. Only 26 IPS officers from the lot have been selected for empanelment. The four IPS officers from the Gujarat cadre were IG Narsimha Komar, Dr Prafulla Roushan (on deputation from centre at BSF, Chandigadh), Junagadh range IG Dr S Pandya Rajkumar and Ahmedabad range IG AK Jadeja.

Only Narsimha Komar has been selected from the Gujarat cadre among the 26 empanelled IPS officers. IG Narsimha Komar has previously worked as SP and DIG at CBI. Ahmedabad range IG AK Jadeja had become an IPS from the SPS cadre, but he hadn't taken the basic training course upon selection into IPS. Similarly, Junagadh range IG Dr S Pandya Rajkumar was arrested in the 2007 Sohrabuddin fake encounter case which led to him getting suspended. He returned to active duty just two years ago.
