Ahmedabad: Courting controversy once again, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah on Sunday made a statement saying that it was Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who were responsible for the 1947 partition and not Mohammed Ali Jinnah.
"Till date, it is on record that the decision was not to divide India. A special representation and a special dispensation for minorities like Muslims and Sikhs, but not to divide the nation. Jinnah had accepted it, but Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad and Sardar Patel did not," said Abdullah.
He added, "The partition would not have happened. There would have ben no Bangladesh and Pakistan, it would have been one India. Jinnah had to ask for Pakistan." Farooq Abdullah has made these statements while addressing a rally in Jammu on Sunday.
