Gandhidham: Gujarat-Chhattisgarh had a mixed day on the first day of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Table Tennis 2018 here at the Kachchh District Table Tennis Association Indoor Stadium in Gandhidham.

In the first match, Namna Jayswal went down to Anusha Kutumbale 9-11 11-9 5-11 7-11. However, Filzah Fatime Kadri equalized for Gujarat-Chhattisgarh with an emphatic 11-8 11-8 11-8 win over Aru Vaishnav. Gujarat went 2-1 up when another Surti Sanskruti Malpani defeated Khushi Jain 13-11 7-11 9-11 11-7 11-9. In the first reverse singles, Filzah she suffered a 7-11 7-11 7-11 loss to Anusha, which provided MP-Manipur team a life and pushed the match into the fifth and deciding match.

However, in the decider, Namna compensated for her loss in the first match. In the second reverse singles, the Bhavnagar girl overcame Aru 7-11 12-10 10-12 11-6 11-1 to keep Gujarat-Chhattisgarh in the hunt for the top spot.

Earlier in the day, boys’ matches, Uttar Pradesh-Meghalaya stunned hosts Gujarat-Chhattisgarh combo with a 3-1 scoreline in the first round encounter. Gujarat-Chhattisgarh big Ishaan Hingorani suffered two shocking defeats. The local boy was guilty of playing the over-defensive game despite enjoying a good lead in his both the matches. In the first match, Ishaan went down to Gautam Dhruvansh 7-11 12-14 12-10 11-6 8-11 and then to Abhinav Belwal 8-11 11-13 11-7 11-13 6-11 in the reverse singles. Lanky Chitrax Bhatt was Gujarat-Chhattisgarh blushes after overcoming Abhinav Belwal 14-12 13-15 11-9 11-8.
