MeraNews Network, New Delhi: Four Indian boxers including five-time world champion MC Mary Kom advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi On Sunday.

Mary Kom, also known as Magnificient Mary, defeated Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Kessenayeva to reach the quarterfinals of 48 kg category. The 35-year-old mother of three had got a first-round bye and went on to win the pre-quarterfinal bout, beating her Kazak opponent by a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Other pugilists in the fray, Manisha Maun, Lovlina Borgohain and Bhagyabati Kachar also advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective weight categories. Manisha defeated World Champion Dina Zholamanby from Kazakhstan 5-0 in 54 kg category to enter the quarter-finals of the Championships. She had earlier outclassed her American opponent Christina Cruz in her first bout.

In the 69 kg welterweight category, Lovlina defeated Panama's Atheyna Bylon by a unanimous 5-0 decision to progress to the quarters while Bhagyabati defeated Irina-Nicoletta Schonberger of Germany by a 4-1 split decision in the 81 kg light heavyweight category. Meanwhile, Laishram Sarita Devi lost to her Ireland's opponent Kellie Anne Harrington in the lightweight 60 kg category by a split 2-3 decision.
