MeraNews Network, Gandhidham: Surat-based Manav Thakkar warmed up for Asian Games in style. At the just concluded 24th Asian Cadet And Junior Championships 2018 at Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The Surti won one silver and two bronze.

Manav Thakkar and his Baroda-based partner Manush Shah did the state proud with yet another podium finish on the last day at Nay Pyi Taw.

In the boys' doubles, Manav-Manush pair went down to Chinese pair Xu Yingbin and Yu Heyi in the semifinals 8-11 8-11 11-13 to settle for bronze. Earlier they had beaten Iranian pair of Amin Ahmadian and Amiereza Abbas 11-6 11-9 5-11 11-9 in the quarters where they confirmed a podium finish.

For a record, Manav and Manush, who are beneficiaries of Sports Authority of Gujarat's Shaktidoot scheme, have silver to their credit in the Team event held earlier in the tournament.

Besides doubles, Manav had a creditable bronze in the mixed doubles section. Manav, who will be flying to Jakarta for Asian Games, partnered with Archana Kamath. The Indian pair beat Penguin Chh and Chen Tung-Chuan in quarterfinals to confirm a medal finish. They won 11-9 11-9 3-11 11-6. Unfortunately, in the last-four stage, they went down to Xu Yingbin and Shi Xunyao 11-7 8-11 4-11 12-10 7-11 in a closely fought battle to settle for bronze.
