Ahmedabad: Children in Jamnagar have likely set a new world record, simply by holding on to stuffed animals. The event, in which 501 children between the ages of one and 15 hugged their teddies for three minutes, aimed to highlight the fact that kids these days spend more time with toys than with their families. The record is currently held by 257 Japanese students.
The event’s organizers, Shri Jayesh Memorial Trust and Eight Wonders Group, said they also wanted to raise awareness about the steady increase in the number of old-age homes mushrooming in the state, and highlight the need for affection within the home.
The organizers say they have submitted their request both the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records, and are awaiting confirmation.
