MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: If there’s anything that everyone, from the constable to IPS officers are scared of in the police job, it is the routine transfers. Those working with the Gujarat Police department get routinely transferred every three years, but they are never asked on where they would like to get transferred. But those holding political influence do get posted in areas and departments where they wish to.

Officials holding the rank of a police inspector and above never face much trouble in settling down after getting transferred, because problems like housing, children’s education, etc get sorted out easily due to their rank. But cops who hold the rank of sub-inspector and below face several social and economic troubles upon being transferred to a new region or department.

Whenever there’s a poll coming up, whether it is the municipal corporation election or the Lok Sabha elections (General Elections), the DGP Office transfers those cops who have completed three years or more in one department or place. But it never pre-decided on which place the transfer would be made. If not the DGP office, the transfers are done by the election commission too. The DGP office has already begun a string of transfers in the state, keeping in mind the Lok Sabha elections slated to take place in May 2019.

But for the first time, a circular has been given out stating that police sub-inspectors who have completed three or more years in one place as on May 31, 2019, will get three options for transfers to choose from. About 300 or more PSIs would get transferred in the run-up to the 2019 elections.
