Prashant Dayal, Ahmedabad: After the failure in forming a government in Karnataka despite being the single largest party in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party will have to now face another upcoming storm in its way in Gujarat. It is believed that ever since the party high command has decided to drop the current deputy chief minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel from the Vijay Rupani government’s cabinet, the senior leader has decided to sever ties with the party and rather form one of his own. The state unit and the central command of the BJP had already sensed this move and has begun its damage control exercise before things go out of hand in the state.

An upset Nitin Patel had put the usually disciplined BJP into a fix during the allocation of portfolios in the Vijay Rupani government in Gujarat. The faction rallying behind Patel claimed that the BJP leaders drown the voices raised in the party using discipline as a whip. They believe that party’s national president and master poll-strategist Amit Shah hates Nitin Patel, and as a result, he is being dropped from the cabinet. Sources claim that apart from Nitin Patel, three other senior party leaders Babu Bokhiriya, Purshottam Solanki and CK Raulji too are going to face the axe. It is believed that the four ministers have together hatched a plan to form a new party after quitting BJP and topple the current government by bringing down its majority in the assembly and moving a no-confidence motion against it.

According to a BJP leader in the state, the top ranks of the party have already got the whiff of the brewing rebellion have swung into action to ensure that this faction doesn’t succeed in its objectives at any cost. The responsibility of this task has been given to none other than the chief minister of the state Vijay Rupani. He held a secret meeting with Babu Bokhiria a couple of days ago, where the miffed leader was convinced that his issues would be sorted out by the party soon and he will be provided with a good portfolio. Purshottam Solanki and CR Raulji too are holding ruse over similar issues, but Rupani is yet to meet them.

Raulji is believed to be one of the Shankersinh Vaghela faction, who acts according to the opportunities in front of him. Raulji is yet to completely place his trust on Nitin Patel. According to sources, there are about 25 MLAs who are willing to jump ship with Nitin Patel.

But why is Nitin Patel ready to quit BJP after remaining loyal to it for so many years? Sources inform that this ruse began from the time he was not made the chief minister of the state after BJP won the assembly elections. He now wishes to conquer the CM’s chair by forming his own party and Congress has already assured him of remaining numbers to force the government into minority and topple the regime. While the Congress might do a Karnataka here in Gujarat too by joining hands with Nitin Patel and letting him become the CM, the BJP has already begun to check the extent of rot in the party that have given birth to this simmering rebellion and plans to launch a probable ‘Operation Nitin’ to salvage its government.
