MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel along with 25 other conveners of the outfit submitted an eleven-page application to the Commission for Other Backward Classes in Gandhinagar on Thursday. The Patidar leaders who had accompanied Hardik to the commission’s office included Gita Patel and Jayesh Patel too.

The group met OBC Commission chief Sugna Bhatt and submitted an 11-page memorandum seeking reservation for the Patidar community in Gujarat, similar to the way the Maharashtra BJP government granted reservation to the Marathas in the neighboring state. Nikhil Savani, one of the conveners who had accompanied Hardik said that if the BJP in Maharashtra can prepare a report on reservation for Marathas and grant them the status of OBC, then why the BJP in Gujarat can’t do the same.

Speaking to journalists outside the commission building, Hardik said that the meeting went well and that they were happy with the response they got from the commission chief. He said that Bhatt told them that it is possible for the Patidars to get reservation in Gujarat too. ‘If the 4-year old BJP government in Maharashtra can do it, then the 28-year old BJP government in Gujarat can definitely do it for the Patidars in the state,’ said Hardik.
