MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel was rushed to the Sola Civil Hospital in the city on Friday afternoon after his health worsened on the 14th day of his fast. The 25-year old Patidar leader is fasting since August 25, seeking reservation for the Patidars, and upper caste community of Gujarat, and loan waivers for the farmers of the state. He is said to be admitted in the ICU and the doctors are examining his health condition. He had lost a considerable amount of weight.

Earlier on Friday, Shree Khodaldham Trust chief Naresh Patel had met Hardik, offering to play the mediator between the Patels and the state government. On Thursday, the Gujarat Congress leaders, led by Paresh Dhanani had a closed-door meeting with the BJP-led state government urging them to hold a dialogue with the Patidar leader over the community’s demands.

Hardik and the government were embroiled in a tussle even before he kicked off his fast, where he claimed that the government is stopping the police from giving him permission to hold his fast on a public ground as it fears a repeat of the violence during the 2015 Patidar reservation agitation. He had finally decided to fast from the premises of his house, which saw a large footfall of his supporters and several political heavyweights, including Dalits rights activist and Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani, BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, AICC Gujarat in-charge Rajiv Satav and others.
