Ahmedabad: After garnering rave reviews from audience and critics alike, the Gujarati adaption of Makarand Deshpande's popular play Sir, Sir Sarla will see be staged in Ahmedabad for the very first time. The iconic-play opened in the Gujarati language in Mumbai in 2018 and has had successful runs in Surat and Valsad too.

Sir, Sir Sarla was staged for the first time in Hindi in 2001 with Rajendra Gupta, Anurag Kashyap, and Sonali Kulkarni. Later, it was revived again in 2012 with Makrand Deshpande acting in it with Sanjay Dadhich and Aahana Kumra.

Celebrated actor-director-writer and theatre artiste Deshpande, who makes his debut in Gujarati theatre as a writer-director with this play, is all kicked up about the performance. He says, "The play has an essence of Gujarati poetry and literature, hence I feel this will have a strong relatability to the audiences in Gujarat. Good theatre and stories should reach out to as many people and I am glad that my story's reach is increasing manifolds with such tours. This is my first play which is adapted in Gujarati and I truly hope the audiences enjoy the performance."

Sir, Sir Sarla is a love triangle between a professor and two of his students, a story of unspoken love that oscillates between reality and memories of the past, which are sweet but unsettling. Poetry plays an intrinsic part in this play, which is going to be a treat for the literature-loving audience.

Producer Manhar Gadhia says,"Gujarat is culturally rich and this play lets us celebrate our own language interwoven with a love story. It was my dream to do this play in Gujarati since the day I saw it in Hindi (2001). This is my way to express the love for my mother tongue."

The Gujarati adaption of the play stars popular Gujarati theatre and film actor Pratik Gandhi, Bhamini Oza Gandhi, Shivam Parekh and Ojas Rawal. The lyrics of the play have been written Niren Bhatt, while the music has been recreated by Kedar Bhagat and Kaushik Deshpande.

The show will be staged twice on Saturday, August 4 at 6:30 PM and 9:30 PM at Thakorbai Desai Hall in Ahmedabad.
