Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Anti Corruption Bureau had on Thursday evening conducted raids at the office of Gujarat Land Development Corporation (GLDC) in Gandhinagar sector 10 and caught several officials with a huge stash of cash, which is suspected to be money from the kickbacks of several payments and projects of GLDC. A total of Rs.56 lakhs have been recovered from the office and the SCB have arrested the joint director and several other officials of the state-run corporation.
Sources in the ACB claim that Rs.40 lakhs in cash were found from joint director KC Parmar's possession and while Rs17 lakhs were recovered in different amounts from the assistant director, finance controller and 6-7 more officials of the corporation. The SCB sleuths had to borrow counting machines from a nearby bank to count the huge stash of currency they had recovered. The ACB officials are continuing with their raids at the residences of Parmar in Chandkheda and several of his relatives' houses too.
The bureau had acted on a tip-off after several complaints of corruption at the GLDC were reported. It is being said that the officials of GLDC would take bribe ranging from 10 percent to 30 percent from the farmers to clear their applications for several government agricultural schemes.
