MeraNews Network, New Delhi: Former American President George Herbert Walker Bush passed away at the age of 94 in Houston on Friday. He is survived by five children, 17 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren and two siblings.

The last veteran of World War II to serve as president, he was a consummate public servant and a statesman who helped guide America out of a four-decade Cold War that had carried the threat of nuclear annihilation and assembling a coalition of 32 nations to defeat Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain after the latter had invaded Kuwait.

Bush, also known as 'Bush 41' or 'George Bush Sr' had served as the 41st president of the United States from 1989 to 1993, while his eldest son George Walker Bush was the 43rd president of United States from 2001 to 2009.

Bush Sr has also been the 11th director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), 43rd Vice President of United States, Ambassador to the United Nations and US envoy to China.
