Gandhinagar: The Gandhinagar police on Friday destroyed nearly Rs3.5 crore worth of liquor seized while the model code of conduct was in place for the Gujarat assembly elections.

A total of 120,998 units of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) were seized in four raids at Santej, Adalaj and Kalol following implementation of the Election Commission of India’s guidelines for the conduct of fair elections.

The police took the liquor in trucks to a location along the Narmada canal near Koba village, M.J. Solanki, deputy superintendent of police of the Kalol division, said. “We deployed full police protection. We also took a water bowser of the fire brigade in order to avoid any incident because of the liquor,” he said.
