MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Wednesday said that the centre will decide on where the first All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital in Gujarat will be built and that the state government has sent a proposal identifying two probable locations in Vadodara and Rajkot.

During the run-up to the bypolls in Jasdan, several political leaders promised and even claimed that the government has decided to build an AIIMS in Rajkot. State minister Saurabh Patel and Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani had during their election campaigns claimed that the BJP government has decided that Rajkot will get an AIIMS. Vadodara and Rajkot have been in a tussle since sometime on which city gets the premier medical institute and leaders from both regions have been lobbying hard for the same.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Dy CM Patel said, “The Gujarat government has surveyed two possible locations for AIIMS and have sent a proposal to the centre, and it will soon announce its decision on where the institute will be built.”
