MeraNews Network, New Delhi: The deadline for the filing of the annual GST (Goods and Services Tax) returns has been extended by the government. The previous deadline to file the returns was December 31, 2018. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, in a notification on Friday, informed that the due date for filing GSTR-9, GSTR-9A, and GSTR-9C has been extended to March 31, 2019.
The notification further informed that the required forms will be made available on the GST portal in short time and that as per the CGST rules, GSTR-9 and GSTR-9A forms will be notified dated September 4, 2018, while form GSTR-9C will be notified dated September 13, 2018.
The move was taken after CAIT, the national traders’ body appealed to the union finance minister Arun Jaitley to push the due date further as the majority of the traders have their concepts about the GST unclear and that many are even unaware about the obligation of filing the annual GSTR.
