MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: The deputy chief minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel flew out to Mumbai on late Thursday evening for a knee-surgery at a prominent hospital next day. Patel is the second minister to undergo a major medical treatment, with state home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja being diagnosed with oral cancer a few days ago and is undergoing treatment for the same.

Patel, who has been suffering from the knee problem for the past two years and was supposed to undergo the surgery on Friday morning at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He will be discharged on Sunday but will be on a leave till December 8, said media reports.

Patel holds the health and family welfare portfolio in the state and despite having access to some of the best hospitals in Gujarat he preferred travelling to Mumbai for his treatment. The responsibility of his ministry has been handed over to a stand-in, probably Bhupendrasinh Chudasama.
