Prashant Dayal: A notification letter from the Gujarat high court registrar general to Gujarat Police DGP Shivanand Jha has resulted in a flurry of activities in the police administration. The letter informed the police about a threat by the constables to commit self-immolation over the mismanagement in the recently held sub-inspector examinations which had led to a paper leak. The DGP office has alerted all the top officials of police administration to keep an eye on the probability of any such untoward incident about to take place.
In a notification letter dated April 13, the Gujarat HC has asked the DGP office to take necessary actions regarding the threat, and as a result, DySP GG Jasani of the State Police Control Room has instructed all the police commissioners of the state to take legal steps as required and demanded by the situations, if there arises any.
The chief justice of Gujarat High Court, Justice R. Subhash Reddy had received a letter from a certain Jashu Vasava, who is a constable with Gujarat Police. Vasava, in the letter, has claimed that there was gross mismanagement in conducting the departmental examinations of the police constables for the post of sub-inspector, which was held on July 27, 2017. He said that the English subject paper had got leaked, which led cheating in the exams on a large scale. He informed that the Gujarat Secondary Service Selection Board (GSSSB) chairman Asit Vora himself had caught many candidates cheating with the help of paper chits.
Vasava goes on to claim that a certain constable Sunil Nair, who had contacts in the GSSSB, was the one who leaked the English language paper and examination in charge SG Javale ensured the passing of 110 candidates and has received a bribe of around Rs40 to 50 lakhs. Vasva said that this is similar to the Vyapam scandal of Madhya Pradesh and demanded that the English exam should be canceled and a retest of the same must be held within a month’s time. He threatened that if the administration fails to hold the retest, the police constables will commit suicide by self-immolation and it would be CM Vijay Rupani, who will be responsible for the deaths.
