Prashant Dayal, Ahmedabad: Wednesday night saw a flurry of activities happening at the residence of senior politician Arjun Modhwadia as Gujarat Congress leaders and MLAs Shailesh Parmar, Alpesh Thakor, Dinsha Patel, Himmatsinh Patel, Somabhai Patel, Tushar Chaudhary, and Indravijaysinh Gohil congregated for a meeting that went on till late night.

Many in Gujarat Congress are upset by the way things are being handled in the party by Amit Chavda, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress president. But it is also being said that Chavda is just a puppet, whose strings are in the hands of Bharatsinh Solanki, and that he is taking backdoor decisions and making appointments in the party without consulting senior leaders of the party from the district and state level leadership. With the Lok Sabha elections just 3 months away, there seems to be a rising disappointment within the party.

The party leaders fear that a repeat of the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections might take place, where the BJP had successfully broken off senior politician Shankersinh Vaghela and his followers from the Congress. The leaders who met were discussing how the financial operations of the party are being handled by leaders who have been in the past accused of financial mismanagement. The group that met decided that they would raise these issues with Gujarat state in charge Rajiv Satav.

Upon being asked about this meeting, Modhwadia refused that any rebellion is brewing in the party and instead this was meeting to discuss their plans to strengthen the party for the 2019 general elections.
