Kalburgi: Addressing a BJP election rally in Kalburgi today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon electorate in Karnataka to vote for the future of youth, good fortune of farmers and safety of women. Modi said Congress has never tapped the full potential of a programme or policies and staggered in implementing various Central Government programmes.
The Prime Minister noted that Kalburgi is the Red gram bowl of the country and Central Government had announced a lucrative price for the Tur dal farmers. He said, but the Congress Government failed in providing its full benefit to the farmers. He pointed out that Fasal Bima Yojana insulates farmers from crop loss and 14 lakh farmers in the state were paid 1100 crore rupees as claims, however, Karnataka state government failed in bringing more farmers under this programme.
The PM said that the Congress also kept quiet at the atrocities on Dalits in Bidar. Pointing at the rise in assets declared by Mallikarjuna Kharge, the Prime Minister asked people whether Congress leaders think their growth is the growth of Dalits. Modi said Congress has always disrespected the martyrs, heroes and freedom fighters to appease a family. He also made a discreet remark about Congress President disrespecting the national song Vande Mataram while he was campaigning in the state earlier.
Modi assured farmers that Yeddyurappa led government will remove all the hurdles coming in the way of ensuring the rights of farmers. Taking on Congress for spreading canards against BJP on the issue of Dalits, SC and STs, he stressed that Congress denied Chief Minister seat to Dalit leader Mallikarjuna Kharge during the previous assembly election.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi is also holding rallies in the state in a two-day campaign in Bidar, Kalburgi, Dharwad, and Gadag districts. He is scheduled to hold public meetings and road shows. Karnataka will go to polls on the 12th of this month to elect a new 224-member Assembly. The counting of votes will be taken up on the 15th.
