Gandhinagar: Violent scenes marred the proceedings of the legislative assembly on Wednesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress party MLAs (Member of Legislative Assembly) came to blows inside the house after two Congress MLAs were suspended by the speaker for causing disruption in the house.

It all begun during the discussion on deputy chief minister Nitin Patel's point of order after the question hour, when Congress MLA Amrish Der tried to put forth his point. Another member too got up and complained that they are not being allowed to raise their questions in the house. Der was asked by the speaker to take his seat and the proceedings continue but he insisted that he be allowed to speak now. Meanwhile a BJP MLA allegedly passed a comment which enraged Der and he crossed over to the BJP's side in the house to confront the MLA. He was joined by Vikram Madam and both were suspended from the house for the day by the speaker Rajendra Trivedi.

Seeing Der violently rush towards the BJP side in the assembly, the marshals present inside the house caught hold of him and marshalled him out of the house. This led to the Congress and BJP MLAs clash with each other inside the house and at the corridors too. The house was adjourned 10 minutes and security guards stationed around the complex took positions around the building and escorted the speaker out safely. It is also being said that MLA Pratap Dudhat hit Jagdish Panchal with his belt.
