Karnataka: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that his government is committed to empower farmers and double their income by 2022. In an interaction through the Narendra Modi application with party workers of the Karnataka BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) Farmers Cell, the PM said that the NDA government is making efforts for the upliftment of the farmers and to bring solutions for the problems they are facing.
He spoke about the various schemes by the center of which some are specially formed for the farmers to eliminate issues they face during the entire crop cycle. “The Centre has allocated 11 lakh crore rupees for agricultural loans which have never happened before. Around 3.5 crore farmers have been covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, out of which 14 lakh farmers belong to Karnataka,” said PM Modi.
He further said that government has increased Minimum Support Price for notified crops to at least 1.5 times that of the production cost. Slamming the Congress, he said, “A sensitive government, which works for the development of farmers, is needed in Karnataka and due to the apathy of Karnataka government, farmers in the state have not got the benefit of Fasal Bima Yojna.”
