MeraNews Network, Ahmedabad: ADC (Ahmedabad District Co-operative) Bank chairman Ajay Patel on Monday filed a defamation suit against Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala at the Ahmedabad metropolitan court. The suit claimed that the statements made by the Gandhi scion and the spokesperson had damaged the image of the bank, which is the largest cooperative bank of Gujarat.

Rahul Gandhi had in a tweet on June 22, 2018, accused Amit Shah, who is one of the directors of ADC Bank, of corruption by converting Rs 745 crores worth of old scrapped notes in just five days after the demonetization was announced. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had later in the evening held a press conference in Delhi where he briefed journalists about the same and came down heavily on the BJP for rampant corruption.

The court accepted the suit and ordered for an investigation into it. The next hearing of the case will be held on September 17, 2018.
