Prashant Dayal, Ahmedabad: While India and the world would be celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi, several Gandhi-haters and Godse supporters have come together to form groups on popular instant messaging group WhatsApp Messenger. What’s appalling is not that there exist groups like this, but the members in these groups include several BJP leaders, MPs, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh members and many journalists from Gujarat. While BJP MLA from Surat Harsh Sanghvi with a few others left the group shortly, BJP MP C.R. Patil is still the member of the group.

A certain Sanjay Shah from Surat is the administrator of the chat group. He confirmed to MeraNews that he had indeed started this group as Gandhi is the reason why our country is facing many of its troubles and Gandhi was the one who insisted on paying Pakistan Rs 55 crores during the Partition. He added that when the ‘Hind Chhodo’ protests were on its peak and had shaken the Britishers, Gandhi had abruptly wrapped up the agitation. “He had even refused to let Hindus migrating from Pakistan to take refuge in mosques and would practice celibacy with other women. I have issues with it and thus created the group titled ‘Gaddar Gandhi’ to air my views through it,” said Shah who claimed that he also runs a group called ‘Jay Godse’.

One has full rights to follow their views, but it is shocking and appalling to see that at a time when Gandhi is revered for his works all across the globe, several BJP leaders are a part of this group. Even if it is to be believed that these political leaders, journalists, and editors of leading media houses were added into the group by Shah, they could have left the group just like Harsh Sanghvi and others did. But many are still members of the group.
