Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad sessions court on Thursday issued an issued a non-bailable warrant against absconding former Dhari-MLA Nalin Kotadia, who is accused in the bitcoin extortion of a Surat-based builder. The CID Crime of Gujarat Police had filed an application and judge PJ Tamakuwala issued the warrant to arrest Kotadia.
When his name had cropped up in the case where 12 crores worth of Bitcoins were extorted from realtor Shailesh Bhatt of Surat, Kotadia made counterclaims against Bhatt. The CID had summoned Kotadia to appear before them and after 2 summons Kotadia had written to the CID asking for time May 12. When he still failed to appear, the CID went looking for him at his Dhari residence and a few other places too.
In its application to the court, the CID asked for the issuance of a non-bailable arrest warrant under CrPC section 70 after they failed to find him at his residences and other places. Judge Tamakuwala took note of it and issued the warrant.
If CID fails to apprehend Kotadia even after this warrant, it would declare the former MLA absconding and will take necessary steps in regards to it.
