Ahmedabad: Accepting the application of CID Crime, a court on Monday declared former BJP MLA from Dhari in Amreli, Nalin Kotadia as fugitive and has ordered him to appear before the investigators or the court in the next 30 days. Kotadia is accused of being one of the conspirators in the infamous Bitcoin extortion case. The CID was granted a search warrant to arrest Kotadia, but he had gone into hiding and the CID was unable to catch him. Thus they had to file an application with the court to declare him absconding.

Investigations into the complaint of Surat-based real-estate developer Shailesh Bhatt revealed that there were meetings held in the Circuit Houses at Surat and Gandhinagar to hatch the conspiracy of kidnapping Bhatt and extorting Bitcoins from him worth Rs 12 crore. Kotadia is believed to have attended that meeting. The CID wanted to question him on this and had issued a summons to him, but Kotadia requested for some time and later made good with his escape, leaving the investigators at lurch. CID sleuths conducted search operations to find Kotadia, but all in vain.

If Kotadia now fails to appear before the court or the investigators in 30 days from the court order, his assets will be attached by the CID Crime. The court has also issued a warrant to arrest Jatin Patel, the brother of Surat-based lawyer Ketan Patel, arrested for his involvement in the case. On the other hand, Kirit Paladiya, one of the main accused in the case has filed a bail plea claiming that he has no role in this whole case and he will cooperate with the investigators whenever they’ll ask him to. He said that he will not flee the country as he lives with his family here. The CID will now present its side on the bail plea in court soon.
