Ahmedabad: Amreli Police PI Anant Patel, who’s on the run ever since the CID (Crime) has established his hand in the Bitcoin extortion case, seems to be trying really hard on not to get tracked by the sleuths chasing him. Sources have informed that he has abandoned his black Tata Safari at a forested area in Gir jungles as the CID sleuths had got the scent of his movement using this vehicle.

Anant Patel had led a team of 9 cops to Gandhinagar in February to pick up Surat-based businessman Shailesh Bhatt and had detained him at a farmhouse near Chiloda highway. Bhatt was threatened with raids and investigations into his businesses by Patel and extorted Rs32 crores and Bitcoins worth Rs12 crores from him. The CID was brought in to investigate this matter after Bhatt approached him minister Pradipsinh Jadeja with his plea to help him out of this mess.

It is being said that Amreli Police SP Jagdish Patel had advised PI Anant Patel and his cops to go into hiding and stay incommunicado for some time until he gets this mess sorted out. The SP first of all ensured that he doesn’t get nailed in this case, though the CID is yet to give a clean chit to him in the matter. Sources in the know of the developments in the case have informed that some of the constables among the nine accused in the FIR were willing to record their statements with the CID, but the SP didn’t let them do so.

The CID has so far arrested two cops amongst the 9 accused in the FIR and lawyer Ketan Patel, whom the aggrieved builder Bhatt had identified yesterday at the Mamlatdar office. What is noteworthy is that these two cops were represented in court for their bail pleas by famous lawyer SV Raju, which means there is someone who is lending a supporting hand to the accused cops, else who can afford such high fees of popular lawyers like Raju? The CID is also on the lookout for the cyber expert and the hawala trader who helped PI Anant Patel in encashing the Bitcoins taken from Bhatt.
