Ahmedabad: Another witness in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case turned hostile on Monday, said a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official on condition of anonymity. Out of 42 witnesses in the case, which relates to the alleged encounter killing in November 2005, 19 have turned hostile till date.
The witness who turned hostile on Tuesday, who owns a hotel of the Hyderabad-Sangli highway, had said in his statement that he had told investigators that many police officials from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka would come to his establishment to eat. On one such occasion, two Tata Sumo cars belonging to the Gujarat police stopped by and the officers spoke about their mission of catching a dangerous criminal from their state. These policemen then picked up three people from a bus that was travelling to Sangli. When investigators showed him pictures of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kauserbi and Tulsiram Prajapati—all three were later killed in an alleged encounter—the hotel owner said they were the same people picked up from the bus.
When asked to give his statement in the special CBI court hearing the matter, the hotel owner denied his earlier account.
