MeraNews Network, Hyderabad: Ahmedabad Smash Masters beat Delhi Dashers 1-4 in their second consecutive win in the Hyderabad Leg of the ongoing Premier Badminton League on Wednesday, moving up to the second position of the leaderboard. The mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and N Sikki Reddy registered a convincing win alongside Daren Liew in their respective matches at Gachibowli stadium last evening.

Previously, the Smash Masters had defeated the North Eastern Warriors 4-1 in their Mumbai leg, where their skipper Viktor Axelsen had starred with a great win in the singles tie. On Wednesday evening, Kristy Gilmour beat Evgeniya Kosetskaya 12-15, 15-12, 15-7 coming back after losing the opening game to her in the women’s singles match.

A Common Wealth Games medallist, Gilmour seemed out of touch in the initial stages of the game, where she even fell down on the court once while attempting a return. But took up an aggressive approach in the later stages if the game, hardly allowed her opponent to come back and won her tie.

Earlier, Satwik and Sikki got the better of Jongjit Maneepong and Lee Chia Hsin and defeated them 15-11, 15-10. While Sikki dominated with net exchanges, Satwik scored valuable points with his smashes. Later, in the first men’s singles match Liew defeated Dashers’ trump player HS Prannoy in a well-contested match between the Malaysian and the Indian shuttler.

For the Dashers, Tomy Sugiarto beat Smash Masters’ skipper Axelsen in the second men’s singles match 15-12, 10-15, 15-8. As of now, Hyderabad Hunters remains on top of the table, closely followed by Smash Masters at second and Mumbai Rockets at third positions.
