MeraNews Network, Gandhinagar: Just a week after the United States of America (USA) declined to be a partner country of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019, the United Kingdom (UK) too pulled out of the event as a partner country. The state government did not receive a final confirmation from them despite being by the External Affairs Ministry too.
Speaking to an English daily, chief secretary Dr JN Singh confirmed that the UK won’t be a partner country with the VGS in its ninth edition as they have not sent the confirmation for their participation. A few days back, he had told the same paper about the US pulling out of the event.
Though no political representation from the UK and the US will be there at the VGS in 2019, business councils from both the countries are expected to take part. The government is still trying to bring in more countries to partner with the event, especially from Africa.
According to the official website for the event, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, and Uzbekistan are the partner countries for the event this year. Additionally, Poland and Australia too have confirmed their participation as partner countries this year.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 will take place from January 17 to 20 at Mahatma Mandir Exhibition cum Convention Centre in the state capital Gandhinagar. In the eight edition of VGS, 21, 910 MoUs were signed for investments worth Rs 25 lakh crores, but the state government has failed to give out information about the investments done so far by which firms and in which field.
