Anil Pushpangadan, Gandhinagar: Surat Range IG (Inspector General of Police) Gyanendra Singh Malik has got himself got posted in the Border Security Force (BSF) for a time period of five years today. Malik, belonging to the 1993 IPS batch, was supposed to be promoted as the Additional DGP (Director General of Police) in some time and had plans to move to center before he got any side posting.

Before becoming the Surat Range IG, Malik was the Range IG of Vadodara. The chatter amongst the officials is that Malik was posted to Surat due to his warm relations with M.S Dugar, the Additional chief secretary of Home Ministry.

IG Malik had plans to move for a central government posting as there were several senior IPS officers in the state who were currently holding the ranks of Additional DGP and if he is to get a side posting here, he won’t be able to hold his range further. The previous Surat range IG, IPS officer Shamsher Singh was promoted to the rank of Additional DGP and was later posted to the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB). With IPS Ajay Tomar holding the fort of BSF Gujarat frontier and Prafulla Roshan at BSF Gorakhpur, Malik will be the third Gujarat cadre IPS officer to be moved to the BSF.
